Spirit Bear: The Simon Jackson Story (2005) – Storyline:

At some point in life, everyone is given an opportunity to take up a cause. For 15-year-old Simon Jackson (Mark Rendall), a decisive moment occurs in the forests of British Columbia, when a great white bear saves his life. Afterward, Simon discovers that his savior, the Kermode bear, is facing extinction due to the logging industry. With the help of Native American activist Lloyd Blackburn (Graham Greene), the shy high school student becomes a tireless force for environmental protection.

Spirit Bear: The Simon Jackson Story Full Movie Review:

A great story of a boy’s fight to save a unique type of bear Why hasn’t this excellent film shown up in theaters and/or on TV in the US? This is great storytelling with an urgent message of how we are losing so much of our natural resource treasures to greed and unbridled development. The cinematography of the British Columbia rain forest and encounters with the Spirit Bear are remarkable. The film is not, however, just a pretty picture. We follow the difficulty of convincing people who have economic interests in development that some things are worth preserving. Having been involved in conservation projects myself, I find the inclusion of the hard fight to win over the public to a conservation cause very close to the mark. Well done! Hope this film gets the play it deserves.
