She is an active member of the small farming community of Loup in the\u00a0Nebraska Territory\u00a0and has significant financial prospects and sizable land ownership. She seems strong and independent but suffers from depression and feels isolated. She makes dinner for her neighbor Bob Giffen and sings to him, but when she proposes, he turns her down, saying she is plain looking and too bossy. He leaves to find a wife back east.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After a harsh winter, three women from the community show signs of mental instability due to the hardships they have faced. Arabella Sours loses three children to\u00a0diphtheria, Theoline Belknap kills her own child after a poor harvest puts her family at risk of starvation, and Gro Svendsen, a Danish immigrant, is in an abusive relationship with her husband and breaks down after her mother dies. Reverend Dowd calls upon one of their husbands to escort the women eastward to a church in\u00a0Hebron, Iowa\u00a0that cares for the mentally ill. To persuade him, Cuddy tells him that she is mailing $300 to await his arrival in Iowa, but she secretly keeps it with her.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>The Homesman Full Movie Review:<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"credit_summary_item\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>I really liked the western &#8220;The Homesman&#8221;, but I strongly suspect that it won&#8217;t be to everyone&#8217;s taste. And I will admit that even this die hard fan of westerns didn&#8217;t find it a perfect movie. The opening thirty minutes of the movie, for one thing, are somewhat confusing with some details, though eventually everything comes together and the audience knows what&#8217;s been going on. And after that first thirty minutes, the movie continues to test the patience of viewers by being quite slow moving and long (the movie is over two hours long.) But I stuck with the movie despite all those things, and I feel I was rewarded in the end. The atmosphere of the movie feels extremely authentic, showing many of the hardships life in the wild west gave many people. Though the story is slow-moving, there are a number of interesting vignettes along the way. And you probably won&#8217;t predict what eventually happens &#8211; the major plot turn around the two-thirds mark really took me by surprise. The last scene is a little unclear as to where one of the characters is headed, but it is memorable all the same.
